As the weather grows warmer, the chores pile up. Diamond Maids is happy to share our 5 House Cleaning Tips for the Summer.

“Everything good, everything magical, happens between the months June and August.” – Jenny Han.

The summer months are meant for vacations and relaxing, and cleaning isn’t the most fun thing we want to be doing when the beach and picnics in the park are calling, but as we frolic and play in the summer heat and plan all sorts of beautiful escapades, we still can’t let our homes fall apart.

Also, in the summer months, some cleaning issues are exacerbated by heat and humidity, so to stay on top of all that, we are sharing some summer cleaning tips that we promise won’t take you longer than an hour so you can get back to the sun.

Follow the 5 House Cleaning Tips for the Summer

1.Deodorize Your Trash and Recycling Cans

Trash cans often have an unpleasant smell that comes to the surface if not regularly cleaned. Especially in the Summer, the heat and humidity can make those unpleasant odors even more intense.

Our number one trick to prevent the odor from escaping is wadding up a newspaper and placing it on the bottom of a trash bag. Then, sprinkle some baking soda into the bag on top of the newspaper. The newspaper will help soak up food and liquids, and the baking soda will help prevent the smell from escaping.

2.Dust Your Blinds

Our blinds have been down most of the time during the winter months, accumulating dust. We recommend taking the time to dust throughout your home. All you will need is two microfiber cloths and a vinegar solution.

Mix equal parts water and vinegar, dip one of the cloths into the mixture, and wipe down the window and blinds. Then take the dry cloth and wipe the area to remove any leftover moisture.

3.Clean Your Microwave

The Summer is often spent outdoors, which means BBQs, picnics, getting together with family, etc., leading to heating leftovers in microwaves.

Get your microwave summer-ready with this natural cleaning method: a lemon!

Place a sliced lemon into a microwave-safe bowl and add water. Next, place the bowl into the microwave and set it for three minutes.

Once it’s finished, let everything sit in there for another three minutes. Finally, wipe clean with a towel.

On a side note, if your microwave hasn’t been cleaned in a while, we recommend using other cleaning methods to remove some of the grime first and then follow our recommendation.

4.Cut Down on Clutter

As the kids are off from school during the
Summer, this is a perfect opportunity for them to go through items and pick
what they want and want to donate or get rid of, so you can declutter. If they
put up a fight about doing chores, make it fun. You can say that the first one
to fill a box of items to donate gets a special treat.

5.Prepare Your Outdoor Space

Once all the chores are complete, nothing feels better than relaxing outside. Before you do that, though, we recommend wiping down the tables, chairs, and area that you plan on using this Summer so that it’s ready for the next party.
